Datuk Sebastian on the opposition empty promises.

Abolishing the Goods and Services Tax (GST as pledged by Pakatan Harapan is merely an election promise as the consequences of removing it would impact on the country’s financial stability.

Pakatan Harapan is talking about abolishing GST as if it is giving hope for mostly Malaysians to improve their livelihood.

“However, whether it is the GST or SST, affecting the businesses will affect the whole society. There is always misconception that GST contributed to inflation. Increasing in prices of items is constant factor through the years. With many reasons and factors contributed to the inflation, blaming the increasing of price due to GST is entirely misleading, says BN candidate Datuk Sebastian Ting.

Datuk Sebastian Ting pointed out a statement by the Centre for Research Advisory and Technology’s chief executive officer, Ng Yeen Seen, abolishing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will cause the government to lose a huge income stream.  “Worst, as Ng has said, that once PH comes into power, all the China projects (ECRL, TRX, Country Garden) would be halted and Malaysia would be sidelined from One Belt One Road project.

Ting further opined that to improve the livelihood of people, he has long terms plans such as promoting Miri in order to boost the economy through eco-tourism, e-commerce and modern agriculture.

“I have to be honest that if I say I have an immediate solution to solving the issue that the people are concerned most which is the cost of living, it would be a lie, because it would be almost impossible to have any immediate solution.

My manifesto has touched on the cost of living, and to improve it. There are several subjects in my manifesto that leads to raising the standard of living, such as creating more job opportunity, boosting the local economy, and affordable housing.

“Since my defeat in 2013, I have assisted families from Kampung Merikan I and II; Kampung Pasir and Kampung Api-Api to resettle at Tudan Desaras. Datuk Lee Kim Shin has also assisted families in Kampung Lusut by in situ, where their squatters were gazetted into a resettlement.

“These are the efforts that we have done, in our mission to reduce the squatters to zero.”
