Dr Sim: implementation of Hudud a backward step to Malaysia’s secular progress.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak steers country back on Malaysia ’s secular progressive charter.

Minister for Local Government, Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said SUPP strongly opposed the proposed amendment to Act 355 and viewed the policies to advance the implementation of Hudud as a backward stop to Malaysia’s secular progress.

Speaking at the press conference at media room during State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, Petra Jaya yesterday, Dr Sim who is also the President of the SUPP said SUPP and BN Sarawak is stepping up and leading the nation to back the original spirit of secularism in the formation of Malaysia.

He added that SUPP will safeguard the secular nature of Sarawak to maintain its opposition to the implementation of Hudud.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has directed Sarawak Member of Parliament’s to oppose and vote against the Bill.

Dr. Sim pointed out that SUPP does not agree with the emergence of two criminal justice systems as it contradicts the Federal Constitution and Malaysia Agreement which will affect the rights and lifestyle of all Malaysian.

“We are living in a multi racial country with respect for each other religion. Why should we go and allow the Hudud Law to govern the lifestyle of the people. PAS has not only shown blatant disregard to the rights and sentiments of all racial and faiths groups within our nation, but consistently challenge the spirit of the Federal Constitution for political mileage,” he added.

Dr. Sim said during the 13rd General Election (GE13), DAP pledged and guaranteed to voters that Pakatan Rakyat (DAP, PKR, PAS) would not advance Hudud and called upon voters including the non-muslim to support PAS and they have made PAS stronger to achieve their objectives.
