SUPP Women Central – quality education important

SUPP Women Central shares the concern of the Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, over the overall lower passing rate of English subject in the recent SPM.

About one quarter of the student failed the English paper in the SPM last year. We cannot overlook the fact that English remains a lingua Franca between cross border communications, and it is being increasingly adopted in the global marketplace across the world.

Malaysians need to realise by mastering the English language our children will be further equipped to compete in the international level playing field, stressed SUPP Central Women Chief Datin Jennifer Chee.

Datin Jennifer also further stressed that the quality of our education must be given the top priority, as it is the platform to enable our future generation to be globally competitive; especially when we are in the IT Era where e-commerce and industries have become increasingly borderless.

In responding to the recent claims on the lack of local quality teachers for local schools, Datin Jennifer urges the  Sarawak Government to step in and resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

Speaking on the specific needs of Sarawakian to achieve educational excellence, Datin Jennifer advises that we must constantly evaluate the quality and suitability of our education system to ensure that it can fulfill the needs of our students, in both the urban and rural Sarawak today. Moreover, it is imperative to recognise that demographic and ethnic diversity in Sarawak is very different from the rest of Malaysia, which calls for unique approach to our education in the territory. She also insists that nobody in Sarawak of any ethnic groups should be deprived from the rights to study in an  education system of high quality.

On the other hand, Datin pointed out that it is everyone’s responsibility to always look at ways to help our students to excel, through understanding various issues that are affecting their studies today; on which, she hopes Sarawak Government would consider forming a focused workgroup to assist in identifying and addressing any issues that would prevent our students from learning and studying effectively.

As SUPP is a political party within the BN and is all for Sarawakian, we will not compromise when it comes to the prospect and wellbeing of our future generation. SUPP will always strive for the people’s rights to education and educational excellence –  Datin Jennifer reassures on SUPP’s commitment to the people it serves.
