Tnay: stop protesting
SUPP Woman Chief, Tnay Li Ping urged the people to stop protesting on every issue as it is hurting the country.
Commenting on the protestors who were clad in red and assembled at Market Square who demanded the Home Ministry to withdraw its suspension of news week, “The Heat”, Tnay said not all problems could be solved by protesting.
“I fully support and uphold freedom of the press and freedom of speech in the media, but such freedom should not be used to create disharmony and impartiality in reporting. Freedom should be taken in a mature way and there are limitation to everything,” she pointed out.
Tnay said with over-board freedom, there are people who thought it was their rights to disrupt harmony and create disorder.
Malaysia, she added, is a multi-racial country with diversifying race and religion so it is natural that people have different reaction to different things in life. “But it does not mean that the media can exaggerate and report on events that could cause unrest. The people’s harmony should be taken into consideration. We do not need to protest if all politicians, be it from the ruling coalition or the opposition side, can put the interests of the people and our country above self’, she added.
