SUPP Pending Women Section, in collaboration with Special Affairs Department and National Population & Family Development Board (LPPKN), are going to hold a Health Talk and examination on 21st September 2014 (Sunday), from 8.00am to 12.00 noon at the Kenyalang Park Community Association (KPCA) Hall. The areas of examination included Mammogram, Pep Smear, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and BMI.

According to the National Registry Report, breast cancer is the number one leading cause of death among women, followed by cervical cancer. The study also showed that Chinese females have the higher risk of suffering breast cancer than Malay and Indian ethnic groups and the prevalence of age tend to be younger. Beside the biological factor, breast and cervical cancer are also caused by environment issue such as cigarette, prolonged use of mobile phone and computer, long-term exposure to various chemicals and processed metals, consumption of highly carcinogenic water and hormone food (i.e. chicken meat, artificial foods & lean meat etc).

The objective of the said activity is to increase public awareness and knowledge, particularly by women, on breast and cervical cancer. Also, at the same time to encourage women to have regular checkups and enhance prevention.

The examination is carried out by Klinik Nur Sejahtera, a clinic formed under the National Population & Family Development Board (LPPKN). All the examinations are free and one of the highlight on the said day is the mobile clinic.

The organizer also invited Matron Fu Choon Kee, a famous health care and counseling speaker to give a talk on “Prevention and Treatment of Cervical Cancer”. Matron Fu formerly worked at the Sarawak General Hospital, and is a very experienced health care counselor.

The organizer encourages more women to attend and participate in the free checkup for mammogram and pep smear. Beside, members of the public are welcome to the free blood sugar, pressure, cholesterol and body check tests.
