Party Treasurer retiring
SUPP Treasurer, Datuk David Teng announced today that he did not want to be nominated for the Central committee (CC) and that he is retiring from politics.
It is likely that Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian, the party secretary general, would be President.
Teng said he has three reasons he wanted to retired from the CC: as the state election is coming, he wanted the party to be united after they had gone through a lot of internal conflicts while at the same time, he wanted the public to have confidence in the party.
“The road ahead for the party is tough and we need to strengthen and stabilized the party. There are a lot of people coming up to help the party and this is a good thing for the party,” he said.
Teng said he has been the State assemblyman for 7 terms and over 30 years in the party. He thanked the party for giving him such opportunity and he was grateful to them.
Although he is retiring, Teng said he was asked to be an advisor and he will continue to monitor the situation of the party to ensure that the party look after its rights and benefits within the Barisan Nasional.
Teng pointed out that throughout his tenure, he had never asked for any position and benefits and in his own ways, he had contributed a lot to the party.
Recently, he said some members had asked him to work with Sim and he thanked them for their support. He said there is a new clean team in the party and he wanted to look at the macro situation rather than on a personal basic.
Teng said it is important that the party gain back the confidence and support of the people.
SUPP has since 2011 been plagued with internal conflicts after the then SUPP chairman of Sibu, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and his group boycotted the TDC then. Due to the constant squabbles, two branches in Miri were de-registered and the central party received a show cause letter this year.
After the dust had settled, Wong joined Party Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) and later United People’s Party (UPP).
Sim who also spoke at the function thanked the retired leaders for their dedication, sacrifices and contribution to the party.
Also retiring are Tan Sri Peter Chin, Datuk Alfred Yap and Andy Chai.
