Wilfred Yap officiates “Healthy Mind Charity Run 4.0”

Wilfred Yap, Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman today officiated the “Healthy Mind Charity Run 4.0” organised by the Sentosa Hospital Psychiatric Welfare Body in collaboration with the Sarawak Medical Services Union (SMSU), an annual initiative to promote mental health awareness and encourage community participation in wellness activities.

In his officiating remarks, Yap commended Hospital Sentosa and SMSU for their tireless efforts in championing mental health advocacy, early intervention and public education. He highlighted the importance of addressing mental health proactively and compassionately.

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Programmes like the Healthy Mind Charity Run encourage healthy living while helping to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues. I truly appreciate the continuous dedication shown by Hospital Sentosa and SMSU Sentosa in supporting our community.

As a demonstration of his commitment to strengthening mental health initiatives, YB Wilfred Yap announced an MRP allocation of RM10,000 to support the organisers in future programmes, patient welfare activities and awareness campaigns.

This allocation is a meaningful contribution to further empower the excellent work done by the psychiatric welfare body and SMSU. Caring for mental well-being requires ongoing, shared effort from all of us.

The event saw strong participation from local residents, healthcare workers, NGOs and youth groups. Highlights included a charity fun run, mental health awareness booths, wellness screenings, counselling information counters and various family-friendly activities promoting positive emotional and mental habits.

Yap also emphasised the need for continued collaboration between governmental agencies, healthcare institutions and community organisations to ensure that mental health support remains accessible and inclusive to all members of society.

The “Healthy Mind Charity Run 4.0” remains a meaningful platform to raise funds for patient welfare under the Sentosa Hospital Psychiatric Welfare Body while fostering a healthier and more resilient Kota Sentosa community.
