Vote for Sih Hua Tong to get things done

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)/SUPP candidate for N11 Batu Lintang Sih Hua Tong appeals to the voters in his constituents to give him a chance to serve them on a bigger platform.

With polling day this Saturday, Hua Tong said the voters should rethink the party hopping candidate who will leave them for greener pastures.

“I will be responsible, accountable and respect the mandate of the voters and as I have unveiled my manifesto to you all, I know I can fulfil them in the next five years. If you think I failed you, you can always vote me out in the next round, but give me this chance,” he emphasised.

Sih, who is also Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Lintang chief manifestos included projects involving flood mitigation and increasing quality of living for the people in Batu Lintang.

Talking to Batu Lintang voters, a resident, Janett said Hua Tong has a heart of gold. For her and a lot of under privileged groups, Hua Tong is a beacon of light for them in their darkest moment. He is always there, when someone needs help. We all know he is not rich but his presence and his comforting words and trying his very best to help us is more than enough.

Come rain or shine and even in the middle of the night, she said, Hua Tong hears the calls of help from residents whose houses were under water. It is a normal sight to see him in his short pants and yellow raincoats going from house to house in the flood area to help the residents evacuate or to get their properties to higher grounds.

Abraham said he remembered that when Sarawak was in lockdown during the pandemic, many breadwinners lost their stable income due to closure of companies. Fortunately, for the poorer group, GPS government came in to assist with food aid and the private companies and individuals came forward to do their part too. For those few months, Hua Tong is seen daily on the ground carrying bags of rice and other food baskets to families in need.

Another resident, Ramli thanked Hua Tong for extending a helping hand during these darkest days of his life. The former grass-cutter lost his job after an accident four years ago. Narrating his story Ramli, who sits on a wheelchair, said he was going to work one early morning when a car crashed into him. He was left with a lot of injuries on his body, especially his legs. After months of being in the hospital, Ramli said he returned back home to his dilapidated house with little food. With no savings, he stayed awake for numerous nights crying thinking of ways to raise his family. True to his worry, his 18-month-old boy died of poor nutrition due to financial hardship.

He has no job, no money and no food on the table. He is in a wheelchair and could not go to work. He needs to buy dressing bandages for his badly injured legs. It was during the period of great dismay, Hua Tong showed up and brought along food and necessities. Ramli never knew who Hua Tong was and later learned that his client had contacted Hua Tong for help. Today, Ramli is optimistic that he will recover, hopefully in a year or two and is looking forward to returning to work. He is very touched that Hua Tong has given him the assurance in looking for sponsorship (of nearly RM700 per month) of dressing bandages for his legs until he recovers. He said Hua Tong has given me the will power to live on and look forward to recovery. He said, ‘I can only say, this man deserves our votes so that he can continue to touch more people’s lives in every possible way’.

In Hua’s Tong own words, the saddest thing he did was offering comfort to those who lost a loved one. He never shy away when he was told that someone has passed on, be it a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist or a Hindu. He believes that despite no words uttered at times, the presence of bidding a friend or their family members a last farewell and last respect will bring comfort to the family members.

Batu Lintang will see a five-cornered fight between GPS’ Sih, Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) See Chee How who is the incumbent, Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s (PBK) Voon Lee Shan, Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Cherishe Ng, and Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party’s (Aspirasi) Alex Leong Shaow Tung.
