Parents jittery over school reopening, says Sebastian Ting

SUPP would like to propose to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to delay the re-opening of the schools in Sarawak for one more week because from the feedbacks we received some schools in Sarawak are still in the dark on the new operational directives, said Piasau State Asssemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting.

Ting who is also the Secretary general of Sarawak United peoples’party (SUPP) said they were given to understand that schools’ heads would likely be briefed on the operational and management on 30th September 2021, tomorrow, by the Sarawak Education Department. After that, the schools would have 3 days to prepare and do any last-minute adjustments before the schools re-open on 4th October 2021 which is next Monday, in line with the announcement made by Senior Education Minister Datuk Radzi Jidin.

“We believe the preparation may be a bit of a rush and therefore we would like to suggest to SDMC to consider delaying the re-opening of the schools for a week to allow sufficient time for schools, especially providing the teachers the necessary time to be fully or adequately be prepared.

At the moment, the schools are overwhelmed in coordinating with the student’s vaccination programme at various Pusat Pemberian Vaksin (PPV) throughout Sarawak.. As such, we feel it is better and safer not to rush the re-opening of the schools and give them more time to prepare to do so, in the best of the students and teachers,” he added.

A number of parents are in jittery over the reopening of the schools due to the high rate of covid 19 positive cases in Sarawak. He said many expressed their concern to him and hoped that the school can start next year.
