Wilfred Yap looks into people’s complains on water pipes
With the recent tabling of the 12th Malaysia Plan, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) Chief cum SUPP Kota Sentosa Chairman Wilfred Yap hoped that the objective of “A Prosperous, Inclusive, Sustainable Malaysia” would not lose focus on the needs and unity of all Malaysians regardless of social status, race or religion. This is crucial for the advancement of our Nation as a whole because without the sense of unity and solidarity, it will translate into more race-based policies rather than needs-based policies. One such example of a recent regressive race based policy is the 51% bumiputera equity rule for freight forwarding companies.
Yap stated that no minority group or community would experience any loss or sense of deprivation under the 12MP. The set targets for boosting economic growth and equitable distribution of our Nation’s wealth under the 12MP should focus on rapid growth and expansion of the economy so that only newly created wealth would be affected under any new affirmative action Policies.
“It is hoped that all affirmative action programmes under 12MP would consider all stakeholders fairly and equally as long as they are in the B40 households and should be based on market friendly and market based criteria and taking into consideration their needs and merits. The attention should be on capacity building while simultaneously finding ways to integrate more need-based assistance to achieve the goals under 12MP. This current Government should embrace the fundamental principle of just and fair accommodation, consultation and compromise amongst all the stakeholders (races) as the basis of all policy targets and timelines in the implementation of 12MP,” he said.
On another unrelated matter, Yap received from residents complaining about a burst main water pipe along Jalan Liu Shan Bang causing great inconveniences to them. Following the request for assistance received, the complaint was immediately communicated to Kuching Water Board and the burst main water pipe was repaired.
