Michael Tiang helps coffee shop owners
Sibu Coffee Shop and Restaurant Owners Association chairman, Tong Ing Kok welcomed Sarawakku Sayang Assistance Package 2.0 announced by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on 10 April which offers a Special Grant amounting to RM1,500 for each hawker and petty trader.
Tong commended that this grant is also meant for those coffee shop food stall hawkers who currently have not registered with the local authorities, on the condition that these food stall hawkers ought to register their business with the local authorities to be eligible for the grants.
He thanked Political Secretary Michael Tiang for taking note of the interests of the hawkers when a group of food stall hawkers brought their concerns about their eligibility for the grants to his attention.
Tiang had managed to convey their appeals to Dr. Sim Kui Hian, the Minister for Local Government and Housing, and necessary adjustments were made to the policy to allow food stall hawkers to also benefit from the grants.
Tong said he appreciated Tiang’s efforts to explain the new Assistance Package to the coffee shop and food stall hawkers and to ensure these hawkers understand various assistance programs introduced by the Sarawak Government to ease their financial burden.
