Anyi Ngau Statement from Parliament = 9 Jun 2014
The member of Parliament for P220 Anyi Ngau announced today at the Parliament corridor that he is still firmly with the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and Barisan Nasional (BN), pledging full support to the interim leadership of party acting president Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing.
Anyi who is also a member of supreme council of SPDP, clarified all rumour being spread stating that he had joined the newly-formed Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (TERAS) is baseless, affirming that he is still with the Barisan Nasional, and still a member of SPDP.
He further clarified that with that declaration, all irrelevant rumour to accuse him of joining TERAS should stop immediately.
When questioned by members of the press why he appeared during the announcement of former SPDP President Tan Sri William Mawan quit as President to join Teras, he explained by saying that he “just happened to be there” and refused to comment further.
Following the short announcement to members of the press, Anyi declined to answer any further question.
Also at the press conference today are MP for Mas Gading Anthony Nogeh Anak Gumbek and Information Chief Jacky Chan from the SPDP.
In a hastily-called press conference on May 15, 2014 at the Sarawak Legislative Council, Mawan, president of SPDP announced that he quit from the party after being “elbowed out”.
Mawan is also a senior minister in the State Cabinet and Member of Parliament for Saratok. Together during the announcement was former assistant secretary-general Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh from the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
During the press conference, Anyi Ngau was announced to have joined the party with other SPDP assemblymen, among them Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran, Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, Rosey Yunus and Paulus Palu Gumbang.
Three assemblymen from SUPP followed Soon Koh’s move. They are Dr Jerip Susil, Ranum Mina and Johnicol Rayong. An opposition assemblyman, George Lagong of the Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) also joined in TERAS.
