Milton Foo says Malaysia is for all Malaysian

In responding to the controversial remarks by Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin that Malaysia is for Malays, as China is for Chinese, the Indian continent is for Indians & Europe for the Whites, SUPP Youth Central Secretary-General Milton Foo lamented that Perlis mufti has committed a serious etymological fallacy on Malaysia as “Tanah Melayu” which is largely used to describe the Malay Peninsula or Persekutuan Tanah Melayu (the Federation of Malaya) where Tunku Abdul Rahman as the then Ketua Menteri & on behalf of the government of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu had signed “Perjanjian Kemerdekaan Persekutuan Tanah Melayu” on 8 February 1956 in Lancaster House, London with the British government (pic 1).

Therefore, he pointed out that Tanah Melayu is not synonymous to Malaysia which was only formed in 1963 by the four regions namely the Federation of Malaya (Tanah Melayu), Singapore (left or exited in 1965), Sabah & Sarawak.

Malaysia, Foo added is not only for Malays, Indians or Chinese but for all Malaysians regardless of races. Likewise, Sarawak is for Sarawakians regardless of race & religious beliefs.

“In the context of Sarawak, the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem had on many occasions proclaimed that there are no “pendatang” in Sarawak including the Chinese. He had also made it succinctly clear that Sarawak government is not for one particular race but for all races & ethnic groups. The fact that Adenan’s administration fervently fought for the rights of all Sarawakians has proven the Perlis mufti’s narrow-minded “Malaysia is for Malays” is not only misconceived but also not sustainable in the multi-ethnic society” he added.
