Dr Sim: more federal allocation for development

Minister for Local government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian said he has to fight for more allocation from the Federal government to ensure that development is done for Sarawak as the RM5 million of the Rural Transformation Projects 2018 from his ministerial allocation is not enough to cover all the infrastructure works needed to do done in Batu Kawa.

Speaking to media this morning at his Batu Kawa Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) branch Dr. Sim pointed out that his intention was to get more funds to develop Sarawak by sourcing from other
allocations provided from Federal which included MARRIS where a total of RM7.6 million was used for resurfacing roads all over the state last year.

Taking to task his critics, Dr. Sim said the whole idea was to uplift and improve the standard of living for fellow Sarawakians thus sourcing for funds outside of his RM5 million allocated will also helped to improve roads, drains among other basic enmities.

“If anyone were to care for Sarawakians’ well-being, then source for funds from Federal and not to make noise only. We want to see Sarawak grow for the better. I, on my part will continue to do my best for the Sarawakians’ welfare,” he said.

Citing an example, he said the Drainage Irrigation Department (DID) would need RM 60 million to solve all the flood problems in Batu Kawa so with his amount of allocation, he cannot do much. Last year’s allocation included RM400 million for electricity, RM200 million for water, also from Federal.

He said that for his RTP projects this year, there were five halls constructed, a futsal, 8 drainage and culverts, upgrading works for two surau, a 1-beam bridge, 7 upgrading roads and one water piping upgrading roads.

Some of the projects are still on-going, he said.
