Datuk Sebastian: Important to educate young generation on Sarawak’s autonomy rights
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew urges the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government and the newly appointed Education Minister, Dr Mazlee Malik, to amend the history text books to give the right information to the younger generation.
SUPP Youth Wing, he said had previously proposed to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to look into the matter and had urged the government to include the history of Malaysia’s formation.
Ting pointed out that there is an urgent need for the new government to re-write and correct history text books as the younger generation must be given the correct information on the nation’s history.
He said the current history books stated that Sarawak and Sabah joined Malaysia which is highly incorrect.”I have always emphasised that we (Sarawak and Sabah) did not join Malaysia, but we formed Malaysia with Malaya. The new government and the newly-appointed Education Minister must have the courage to change. There is a need to educate the young on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) on Sarawak’s autonomy rights.
