Tiong: New party may be rejected

MP for Bintulu, Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, who is also SPDP Deputy President, strongly advised leaders in SUPP not to play with racially partisan politic as it would not work in Sarawak, a land of multi-racial and multi-religion where the population lives in harmony.
Tiong, who is also an envoy to the PM, said he was dismayed to see some leaders who were so arrogant that they thought without the Chinese’s support, they could still win in the election as their constituency are in semi-rural areas.
He said in Sarawak, no one should play with racially partisan politic, but these leaders thought that without the Chinese, they still can win. “This bunch of leaders still has the ‘feel good’ about themselves and did not look at their weaknesses but blame everyone except themselves for what has happened to SUPP. Do you think after discarding Chinese voters and with a new party formed, you will be accepted by the Chinese voters?” asked Tiong. He warned that the Chinese will not accept such a party.
Tiong also blasted Tang You Chiong from Sibu, who has given his comments in local Chinese papers, to think carefully before giving his views.
Tang had on January 30th called SUPP President, Tan Sri Peter Chin a traitor for a proposal (suggested by a SUPP member in Kuching) to merge Sarawak Progressive Democratic party (SPDP) and SUPP and that the merger is against the principles of SUPP.
Tiong said if both party Presidents agreed to the proposal and taking in consideration the members feelings, why not? Both parties are multi racial and if it is for the better future of both parties in Sarawak politics, then it is a good idea. So how can Tang call his party president a traitor and a betrayer,” said Tiong.
He advised Tang to understand more on politics before making such accusation.
