Dato’ Sebastian on “Sarawak Freedom and Independent Walk”.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Secretary General, Dato’ Sebastian Ting said it was indeed a proud day for Sarawakians to be together as one big family and to celebrate the long overdue day of 722 Independence Day at the Song Kheng Hai rugby field yesterday morning.
“The walk from Jubilee Ground to Song Kheng Hai field was orderly, peaceful and there was a sense of pride in the air. There was no untoward incidence and everyone was proud to be part of the historic event.
After he went for the walk with the huge crowd, Ting also went to attend the formal celebration at the DUN where TYT and CM officiated the function.
Ting urged all Sarawakians to throw their weight behind the Chief Minister, who said he will make a decision at the end of the year whether to make July 22 a holiday next year. “This is the 53rd year and the people had been waiting for a long time for this. This is the time we must celebrate the day annually,” he added.
He said by giving the Chief minister the mandate, Ting said Sarawak will see better days ahead.
Ting also expressed shock and disappointment that the Inspector General of Police had said he may summon the organisers of the “Sarawak Freedom and Independent Walk” ” If IGP is serious to summon the organisers, then I want to tell him that SUPP lawyers will be there for the organisers,” he said.
