SUPP Public Complaints Bureau helping in adoption cases

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau was recently approached by a Malay couple from Kampung Tabuan Hilir and a Chinese couple from Siburan for assistance. Both couples were facing the same problem in applying for a Certificate of Adoption and Identity Card for the child under their care and custody since birth.

The child under custody and care of the couple from Kampung Tabuan Hilir is eight (8) years old while the child under the care of the couple from Siburan is already eleven (11) years old.

After facing this problem for many years and after seeing many people seeking for assistance with no results, both the anxious Malay and Chinese couples of the 2 children decided to seek help and advice from SUPP Public Complaints Bureau after reading in the newspapers about the Bureau.

The Bureau successfully assisted the Malay couple in applying to the High Court for an Order they be made as legal guardians of the child under their care since birth.

However in respect of the Chinese couple, the High Court Judge requested for more information on how the child came under their care and custody and fixed a hearing date on 31st July 2015.

SUPP PCB would like to inform the general public with similar problems that a High Court Order of appointment as guardian of a child is the first step that they must take before they can proceed to apply to the District Office for the legal adoption of the child under their custody and care.

After the District Office approves their application for adoption of the child under their care, the couples can then proceed to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara to apply for an identity card for the child.
