SUPP CWC (20 March)

SUPP is against Hudud law as the implementation of such law will affect the harmony of the multi-racial society in Malaysia.

Hudud, said the President of SUPP, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian, is unconstitutional and inconsistent for us in Sarawak.  He said this after chairing the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting at its headquarters.

He said that Barisan Nasional leaders will issue a statement on this issue soon.

On March 19, the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly passed a hudud bill amendments on the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993. The bills will then be tabled in Parliament.

On another issue, Sim said the party constitutional amendments regarding the term of various posts have been approved by the Registrar of Society (ROS).

Party member who have been appointed as a Federal Minister, Deputy Minister, State Minister or Assistant Minister, Political Secretary Senator, Chairman of Local Authority, Statutory body, or Councillor, community leader will be subject to the limitation of terms in the office to allow others to have a chance.

The President’s post will be allowed a maximum of three terms and for Federal Minister and State Minister, the term limit will be two terms, while Federal Deputy and State Assistant Minister will limit to three terms.

Other amendment included Member of the parliament for four terms, as Senator one term,  Political secretary two election terms and for Councilors six years.

“Chairman of Local Authority, or Statutory body, is eight terms. While community leaders will be two terms,” he added stating this was meant to give the chance for young members to move up.

The ROS has also approved an additional Deputy President II post in the party and the party will hold a Special Delegates Conference to endorse what the ROS has approved – then only the party will elect its new Deputy President.

“The state seats which has increase from 71 to 82 will also see an increase of the central delegates representing all branches from 85 to 105 delegates,” said Dr. Sim.
