Helping the less fortunate
A family of four was left homeless after their wooden house was razed in a fire at Stapok Resettlement area two weeks ago.
Single mother Pui Nyet Fong, aged 48 and her three children aged between 11 and 17, were forced to put up with friends and relatives in different houses as they could not accommodate the family together.
Pui who earned a living making ‘kuehs’ and bit of tailoring, was at wit’s end and could not save any of her belongings used for her trade.
SUPP Central Youth Secretary General Wilfred Yap was told of the incident and he went to the Welfare Aid to get RM3,300 financial assistance for Pui, which was handed over by Sarawak Social Welfare Department’s assistant welfare officer Madam Chai today.
Yap said the financial aid was to assist Pui to cover some of the urgent needs so she could have something to hang on to.
“Government’s welfare policies are equally and fairly accessible by all Malaysian, this is how it should be and this is our rights as citizens of Malaysia, but on the premise of going through proper channels.”
He urged members of the public not to be mislead by the Opposition who created an impression that all BN government’s policies are unfair. “The opposition YBs only know how to talk. When things happen, they come out and get some cheap propaganda. After their objectives are achieved, they quietly disappeared and no actions were ever taken. Can we blame anyone if the rakyat felt that they had been used?”
He added that although he has no official position nor is he a YB, the spirit of “Janji Ditepati” (promises fulfilled) as advocated by Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Tun Razak is something he has always adhered to and believed in. “Rather than all talk and no actions, I’d preferred to get things done.”
