Bridging Generations : Fostering Love and Care Between the Elderly and Youth
Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang emphasized the importance of fostering strong relationships between the elderly and the youth to build a harmonious and caring society.
Speaking at the “Bridging Generations: Fostering Love and Care Between the Elderly and Youth” program, organized by Chuang Yi Sarawak Charitable Organization, he expressed his gratitude to the organizing chairman, Ian Jasper Philip, for initiating such a meaningful event.
“I feel very happy this morning because we can gather in a spirit of goodwill, strengthening our bonds in an open and harmonious atmosphere,” he said.
He highlighted several key initiatives to bridge the gap between generations, including organizing joint activities such as art workshops and storytelling sessions, mentoring programs where seniors can share life skills and values, and volunteer efforts by youths to assist the elderly in their daily lives.
“Building positive relationships between generations requires continuous effort and support from all parties,” he added.
Dato Lo also took the opportunity to remind attendees about the importance of unity in Sarawak’s diverse society, where people of different cultures, ethnicities, and religions coexist peacefully.
“We in Sarawak are very fortunate because religion and ethnicity have never been an obstacle to our unity. In any situation—whether political or economic—we must always stand together to ensure Sarawak remains peaceful and prosperous,” he said.
He officially inaugurated the program, expressing his hope that it would inspire greater compassion and understanding between generations.
