Datuk Sebastian Ting upgrades hawker centre
Sarawak Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting has allocated RM200,000 under the Rural Transformation Plan (RTP) 2024 to upgrade the Tamu Muhibbah and the Kedayan Hawker Centre in Miri.
Ting who went to the site said the improvements include adding a canopy and repairing stalls to provide a more comfortable business environment for hawkers.
The funding was successfully secured Ting who inspected the sites with Miri City Councilor Liu Yijie and officials from the Miri City Engineering Department.
Ting said the visit aimed to assess the areas where the canopy roof will be built.The project focuses on upgrading shelter facilities to protect vendors from sun and rain, while also repairing stalls within the expansion area to ensure safety and functionality.
He added that after receiving feedback from hawkers, he has been actively securing RTP grants to improve infrastructure and provide better business conditions.
The upgrading of the hawker centres will not only enhance the hawker stalls’ business environment but also contribute to city cleanliness, benefiting both the local community and tourists.
Ting urged hawkers to maintain good hygiene practices, ensuring a clean and welcoming marketplace for all.
