Kuching international busking festival coming soon

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting officiate the Kuching International festival and supported the event hoping that this will attract more tourists to the city.

Organising Chairman, Gerald Goh said Kuching International Busking Festival (KIBF) returned for its second year and was sponsored by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Petra Jaya Properties, Continental Cycles, and Plaza Merdeka.

He said KIBF 2024 promises a bigger and better experience starting August 29th to 31st in the streets of Old Kuching Town.

This year, he said KIBF 2024 expands with 48 registration spots and introduces new prize categories, with over RM11,000 in cash prizes to be won!

Buskers will perform in designated stations over both nights, competing for top spots in various categories judged by a distinguished panel, including Zaid Zaini the Executive Producer/Director of Front
Row Entertainment Sdn Bhd, La Danse Director Ivy Chua, and Korean actor Lee Sang Chan.

Goh said top 10 Buskers: Singers, Musicians, Bands and other Performing Artists will be eligible for 1st Prize: RM2000, 2nd Prize: RM500, 3rd Prize: RM800 and 4th-10th Prizes: RM500 each. There will be other category of events with various prizes.

The grand finale is at Plaza Merdeka on August 31st where the top buskers will compete, and winners will be announced.

The evening will also feature a prize-giving ceremony attended by VIPs and sponsors, including YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts), Encik Rewi Bugo (Managing Director of Petra Jaya Properties and Director of Continental Cycles), representatives from Plaza Merdeka, Sarawak Energy Berhad and other dignitaries.
