Datuk Sebastian Ting inspects the waterfront leisure park upgrading plan

Deputy Minister of Tourism of Sarawak, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting visited the Riverside Leisure Park located on the riverside of the Riverside Business District to inspect and discuss the park’s upgrading plan. The inspection focused on proposed new walkways within the park.

Ting said that the plan has not yet been finalized and the latest information is still needed. He said the proposed walkway would extend to the river mouth, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery along the way to the seaside. However, there are currently some problems that need to be solved.

It is reported that this project is estimated to cost RM500,000. The proposed sidewalk is about 1.5 kilometers long and has a width ranging from 3.5 meters to 4 meters. It is relatively narrow and is not enough to be used as a formal road. In addition, if a new sidewalk is built, it may affect the existing descending sidewalk. To avoid disturbing existing facilities, relevant authorities need to have a detailed understanding of the current status of the land.

Ting emphasized that today’s inspection was mainly to study the improvement plan, and no final decision has been made yet. He called on relevant departments to collect necessary information as soon as possible in order to make scientific decisions and provide a better leisure environment for the public.

Also on the inspection tour were tourism staff and Miri council.
