MPP Chairman, Cr. Tan Kai, 14 August 2024 announce Non-Energy-Saving Streetlight Replacement Project
The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is pleased to announce the initiation of a significant streetlight replacement project along Jalan Stapok Utama. This project aims to replace 95 non-energy-efficient streetlights with energy-efficient LED streetlights.
The Chairman of MPP, Cr. Tan Kai, stated, “This project is a pivotal step towards enhancing our municipality’s sustainability. By gradually replacing outdated streetlights with energy-efficient LED models, we are not only reducing our electricity consumption but also lowering our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, in alignment with the Green City Action Plan (GCAP) initiatives.”
To date, the replacement of a total of 251 streetlights with LED streetlights has been carried out since 2023 at several locations, including Batu Kawa Riverbank Park, Pines Square, and 3rd Mile Bazaar, with a total project cost of nearly RM400,00.00.
“This initiative is part of our broader commitment under the Green City Action Plan to foster an environmentally friendly and sustainable urban environment. The new streetlights will utilize the latest technology to provide better illumination with lower energy consumption, contributing to our goal of reducing the municipality’s carbon footprint,” added Cr. Tan Kai.
The funding from the Government has been instrumental in making this project a reality, and the MPP extends its gratitude to the Government for its continued support. MPP will continue to seek funding from both the Federal and Sarawak Governments and collaborate with SESCO to gradually replace all non-energy-efficient streetlights in the Padawan area.
The Padawan Municipal Council looks forward to the successful implementation of this project and the positive impact it will have on our community by creating a greener, safer, and more sustainable environment for all residents.
