Dato Sim Kiang Chiok on 50th anniversary of ties between China / Malaysia

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relationship with China, Malaysians take great pride in this enduring partnership, said Kuching China Trader Importers and Exporters Association. Vice- Chairman, Dato Sim Kiang Chiok.

He said established in the 1970s, it was during a time when there was widespread distrust of communist nations, our relationship with China has flourished over the decades.

“Today, China has transformed from a developing country into the world’s second-largest economic power. It has evolved from being the world’s factory to a leader in technology and science.
The ‘Belt and Road’ initiative exemplifies China’s commitment to sharing its wealth globally, aiding countries in developing their infrastructure, logistics, and economic, ” he said.

Even Sarawak has reaped the benefits of this relationship, Sim stated that with our significant local population of Chinese descent and strong ancestral ties, we are well-positioned to strengthen our cultural and trade connections with China.Chinese investments in Sarawak span from construction, manufacturing, trade to emerging sectors like solar panels and hyqdrogen technology.

He said Sarawak government encouraged our children to learn Mandarin to prepare them for future interactions and opportunities with China and this linguistic proficiency is crucial as we foresee China providing substantial economic opportunities in the years to come.
