Datuk Sebastian Ting officiates the opening of Miri Tourist Information Center
The Sarawak Tourism Board held a re-opening ceremony for the Miri Tourist Information Center where Datuk Sebastian Ting was representing the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim to officiate at the opening ceremony.
In his speech, Ting said that tourism is one of Sarawak’s main economic, so it is important to provide complete information facilities to tourists and people from all over the world.
He said that Miri is already one of Sarawak’s main tourist destinations, and once Niah National Park is certified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Miri will have two World Heritage Sites as tourist attractions, which will bring more tourists.
He pointed out that Sarawak attracted 438,950 visitors in March alone, so it is expected to exceed the target of 4 million tourists in September this year as early as possible.
Ting added that after Sarawak has its own airline, in addition to benefiting the people, it will also bring more tourists to Sarawak.
Many people still ask about the location of Miri Tourist Information Center, so it is necessary to promote this center again, he said. Once the center is reopened, the relevant units will hold events here from time to time to attract people to come, or people can also come here for leisure activities.
It is reported that the first phase of the above-mentioned renovation project was allocated RM250,000 by the Sarawak Tourism Bureau in 2021, and the second phase was allocated RM250,000 from the Chen Chaoyao Rural Transformation Plan and started in November last year.
