Flood mitigation in Taman Malihah ready to be implemented
Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) Councilor Tan Kai, Deputy Chairman PBB Tupong Branch who is also the Deputy Mayor of Kuching City South Council Dato Zaiedi Haji Suhaili representing Tupong state assemblyman YB Fazzrudin, and SUPP Central Woman Chief, Kho Teck with DID Sarawak checked on the progress of the flood mitigate project for Taman Malihah at Tupong yesterday.
Kho said the proposed flood mitigation at Taman Malihah will involve widening and deepening of the Sungai Tengah and Sungai Minjap with 10 meter and 20 meter base width respectively while Jalan Syn San Too will be built higher and dam will be built along the river behind Taman Malihah.
She added that a retention pond along the boundary of Taman Malihah will be built as well. This project which will take two years will resolve flash flood issue in Taman Malihah.
Projek Pembangunan Lembaga Sungai Bersepadu (PLSB) Sungai Sarawak or Sungai Sarawak Intergrated River Basin Project was a federal funded project under the 11th Malaysia Plan approved during Dato Sri Najib’s administration prior to 2016. It was approved to mitigate flood in the Kuching area.
DID Sarawak pointed out that although the proposed flood mitigation projects will resolve the flash flood issue at Taman Malihah, it is not designed to prevent flood due to phenomena of high tide and drainage blockage.
DID Sarawak is getting ready to call for tenders in early November this year.
