Tan Kai and YB Wilfred Yap visit Sarawak Vet to tackle swine flu issue

Kota Sentosa ADUN YB Wilfred Yap and Political Secretary Tan Kai today visited Sarawak Veterinary Department to discuss over alleged sacks which containing dead pigs thrown into Sg Semenggoh 2. The visit met the Director of Veterinary Department Dr Adrian, the regulatory officer Dr Chuo and the enforcement in charge Encik Mohd Fahdil.

According to the director, African Swine Fever can cause the pigs die in a short period of time, the procedure is to slaughter all the pigs raised in the farm, as the virus could spread through various media. The veterinary department always cooperate with the pig farmer and slaughter all the pigs within the farm in order to curb the spreading of the virus, however government always prepare for the financial compensation to the pig farmers in order to ease their financial burden . However, throwing the dead pigs into river is strongly prohibited as it will caused wider infection.

Meanwhile, Dr Chuo, the person in charge of veterinary regulation illustrate that the department has get in touch with the pig farmers within the 5km radius of Sg Semenggoh 2 and went to the farms to carry out all necessary inspection and detection.

The chief enforcement officer Encik Mohd Fahdil illustrate that their officer has went to Sg Semenggoh 2 to identify the content of the sacks whether is dead pigs or not, if it is confirmed, then the pig carcass will be further diagnosed whether carry the African Swine Fever virus.

YB Wilfred Yap promised to Veterinary Department that he will assist whatsoever way if the sacks found to be dead pigs, including handling process, transportation and bury.
