Beware of MIS
Deputy Chief Minister, Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian called to the people to be aware of Multi-system (MIS)inflammatory syndrome that can be deadly if one contracted covid 19.
Issuing the warning, Dr. Sim said that MIS, although rare, can kill even if one has recovered from covid 19 as the risk of getting it is there despite a patient having mild initial infections.
He said MIS occurred between two to eight weeks after covid 19 infection and affected newborn, children and adults.
They can attack the heart which causes severe heart failure, lethal irregular heart rate and abnormal collection of fluid around the heart. It can cause acute kidney failure and blood clotting abnormalities.
Dr. Sim said it is deadly if it is not treated early. Thus, he said it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible if one remains unwell again after recovering from COVID-19!
The less chance of getting covid 19, is to get oneself vaccinated or if they had double jabs, they should go for a booster jab.
He said unvaccinated individuals are about 9 times more likely to be infected and 62 times more likely to die from COVID)19 compared to vaccinated and boosted people.
Dr. Sim added that unvaccinated individuals are about 9 times more likely to be infected and 62 times more likely to die of covid 19 compared to vaccinated and those who had booster jabs.
He said from statistics shown from December 1 last year to January 6 this year, infection rate per 100,000 population in Malaysia are 1,238 for those who got booster jabs, 4,255 for those who got double jabs and 10,874 for those unvaccinated.
In the same period the death rate showed that 9 who received boosters passed away with 32 fully vaccinated and 555 not vaccinated.
