Milton Foo blasts Dr. Kelvin Yii
Milton Foo urges DAP Kuching City’s Member of Parliament Kelvin Yii to follow up closely with the progress of the flood mitigation project in Kuching where a RM150 million was allocated in light of it.
He said last year, Yii has released a statement pointing that these flash flood issues which recurs over the years particularly after heavy rains has caused much inconvenience and suffering to residents in the City. Yii has also raised this issue in the Parliament to resolve the long standing flash floods in some low lying areas especially around Sarawak General Hospital, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Batu Lintang, Jalan Tong Wei Tah, Jalan Foochow, Jalan Laksamana and Jalan Ong Tiang Swee.
At the same time, Yii brought up that during the former ruling by Pakatan Harapan, the State
Irrigation and Drainage department (DID) had proposed the Sungai Sarawak integrated River Basin project (Projek Pembangunan Lembangan Sungai Bersepadu – PLSB) Sungai Sarawak which covered nine sub-projects under the proposed project. It is further directed that the bidding and contracting plans which are to be responsible and monitored by the DID, are scheduled to be completed by November last year. The detailed designing process including land acquisition and investigation of the federal-funded project will be carried out from December 2019 to December 2020 with plans that the physical construction will start in 2021 and is expected to take about four years to complete.
Foo is addressing the issue of flash floods that occurred yesterday afternoon at Kuching’s many low lying areas including Pending District’s Kenyalang Park, the area in front of SJK Chung Hua No. 5, Jalan Chawan, Kali Garden’s Jalan Resak, Jalan Foochow No. 2, Jalan Penyau, Bintawa, Sungai Apong and other areas.
He is also enquiring the whereabouts of the RM 150 million allocated by the Federal Government.
He further urges Yii to have the Parliament to put more concern and urgency on the matter as it involves the safety and rights of the residents.
