YB ADUN Sarawak must be a Sarawakian who was born in Sarawak & residing in Sarawak

KUCHING :Pertaining to the bill to amend the State Constitution of Sarawak tabled by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at Dewan Undangan Negeri which was deferred by DUN Speaker due to anomalies & vagueness of the bill this morning, in particular the new proposed Article 16(2) which may allow a non-Sarawakian permanent resident of 2 years pursuant to Section 71 of Immigration Act 1959/63 to be eligible as an elected member of DUN Sarawak, Milton Foo pointed out that there is a lack of clear definition of “resident in the State” under the current Article 16 and thus he calls upon our ADUNS to strengthen & tighten the provision of Article 16 by refining the same in only allowing Sarawkians whom are born and raised in Sarawak to be eligible to contest as a candidate in the state election & be elected as Adun.

Foo condemns any act or attempt which tends to take away or erode the fundamental right of Sarawakians shall not be compromised & condoned, for if a non- Sarawakian were to allow to contest in state election & become Adun Sarawak, then it entails not only serious impact but also make the call for “Sarawak Autonomy” advocated by the late Chief Minister Adenan Satem which is now vehemently pursued by our Chief Minister Abang Jo a redundancy & in vain.

Foo said he does not wish to see one day a Malayan such as Lim Guan Eng or Lim Kit Siang comes to Sarawak & contests in our state election and become an elected member of DUN Sarawak just because they can fulfill the criteria of Section 71 of the Immigration Act.

Foo is adamant that Sarawak is only for Sarawakians.

Those who are not born in Sarawak but having the status of permanent resident should be only confined & allowed to enter & reside or live in Sarawak, but not to contest in the state election & to be elected as ADUN Sarawak.

Furthermore, amendment to Sarawak Constitution is a matter which warrants serious thought with great circumspection as it touches the fundamental right & interest of each and every Sarawakian.

We shall not let outsider to become the master of our beloved land nor let them rule or control the people of Sarawak.
