Wilfred Yap helps unlicensed hawkers
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief and Kota Sentosa Chairman Wilfred Yap is helping unlicensed hawkers/petty traders and eatery food stall operators on the status of their application for “Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS)” of RM2,250.
From the interviews carried out with these people, Yap said it was discovered that the majority of their problems arose due to their misunderstanding of the criteria and requirements to qualify for theBKSS aid and their failure to furnish all the relevant documents and information which must be accurate, truthful and factual. In view of the incomplete documentation and inaccurate information furnished by the applicant, it has invariably resulted in the delay of the approval of their application or even rejection for the BKSS government aid of RM2,250.
For the information of the general public, some of the basic criteria to qualify for BKSS aid for unlicensed hawkers/petty traders and eatery food stall operators are that they must be a Sarawakian aged 18 and above. The applicant must be a genuine trader that has been personally trading physically such as operating a stall, kiosk or roadside stall before 1st April 2020. Traders operating an eatery food stall inside a coffeeshop are entitled to the BKSS aid but they must furnish the necessary documentation of personally trading in the coffeeshop. Unlicensed hawkers/petty traders must also be registered with the local council and have a valid permit issued by the local council. The application for permit to the local council should have been made by the unlicensed hawker/petty trader and eatery foodstall operator on or before 31st May 2020. Online business is not included in the BKSS aid.
Yap advise that all unlicensed hawkers/petty traders and eatery food stall operators to comply with all the requirements and criteria laid down by Government to qualify for the BKSS aid of RM2,250. He added that SUPP PCB is not a Government agency or approving authority and can only assist on complaints on late or lack of response or inaction, unfair practices, mediocre and service failure of the relevant local council and government agencies.
He said they cannot bend the requirements and criteria for BKSS aid laid down by the Government and is not in a position to assist in situations where the applicant does not meet the criteria or where the applicant has failed to comply with the requirements laid down by the government.
