Wilfred Yap helps fire victims
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by a house owner staying at Lorong 45A, Jalan Stampin Baru within BDC Resettlement Scheme who requested for his assistance after the house she was staying in with her two sons was totally destroyed by fire last sunday night. One of her son staying with her is receiving financial assistance under “e-kasih” from the Welfare Department whereas the other does not have stable employment.
Following the request for assistance received, Wilfred Yap together with SUPP Stampin Sub-Branch members immediately went to inspect and assess the situation to see what can be done to assist the house owner.
SUPP PCB would like to thank the Sarawak Welfare Department for their speedy response in visiting the victim of the burnt house upon being notified by SUPP PCB and for handing over immediate relief assistance of daily necessities to ease her burden. The officer from Welfare Department is in the process of making her report on the situation for evaluation to obtain approval for financial assistance to be given to the fire victim.
SUPP PCB Wilfred Yap appeals to the Federal Government to accord the highest priority to assist the hardcore poor to get decent housing and to restart the Housing Programme for the Hardcore Poor or Program Perumahan Rakyat Termiskin (PPRT) which have been halted. SUPP PCB Chief Wilfred Yap hopes that the Federal and State Government would evaluate, prioritize and enhance their policies on poverty eradication by empowering the poor to improve their access to livelihoods or employment opportunities.
