Dr Sim on party unity and the need to move forward
SUPP will have to change in ways of serving the people and ways of reaching out to them in order to win back the people’s hearts.
Speaking at the celebration of the SUPP 55th anniversary at the SUPP headquarters yesterday, Secretary General Senator Dr Sim Kui Hian said there is a need to move toward the chance to adapt to the modern time of the people’s way of doing things.
He pointed out that change is imminent for the party to stay relevant as by the next election, there will 70 percent of new voters and these voters do not read newspaper but communicate through watsapp, video and IT. “We need to be at par with them to get to them. We need the help of the people to be voted in,” he added.
Sim also urged members to work towards to serve the people and not the leaders. Leaders, he added, come and go but SUPP will still be around. Some leaders have personal agenda which will not be beneficial to the party or the members.
Thanking those who left to pave way to the younger generation, Sim asked the younger generation to step forward and do their best to bring the party to greater heights. He thanked the leaders who gave way not to leave the party but to continue advising them.
The party which has been in crisis for the past two years, is has now been given a new lease of life after the Registrar of Society did not de-register them. He urged all to take the chance to breathe new life into the party and not to stray away from the party’s objective, which is to serve the people.
On the issue of Teras, Sim is confident that the Barisan Nasional (BN) will not accept Teras into their fold. He said SUPP must stand together to ensure that Teras will not be accepted as a BN component and that there will be no negotiation at all from SUPP.
