TS Peter Chin on the coming TDC and Teras

President of SUPP, Tan Sri Peter Chin brushed off speculation that there will be a contest for the President post during the Triennial delegates conference in August this year. He said he would make an appropriate announcement at the right time.

Speaking to reporters after the celebration of the SUPP 55th anniversary gathering, Chin who did not want to comment on who the President will be, said he has a few members lined up in mind on who will be appointed in the Central working committee.

“These people must be hard working, objective, conscious of party struggle and are worthy to be in the party and not those who are wavering or scared.

On the four state assemblyman who had left the party led by former Chairman of Sibu SUPP, Dato’ Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also a Minister in the Local government and Community development, Datuk Dr. Jerip Susil (Bengoh) who is an Assistant  Minister of Public Health, Ranum Mina (Opar) and Jonical Rayong (Engkilili), Chin said on moral standing, these four should have resigned from the party including their position and state assemblymen as they did not win the post through Teras.

Referring to a letter written by former President, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Wong Soon Kai to directors and shareholders of Twinswood Sdn Bhd, Chin said it was stated clearly by Wong that the Sibu premise was bought in 1987 at RM1 million by funds donated by the public.

Wong had urged members not to challenge the rights of the Sibu SUPP branch and urged all the Board of Directors and shareholders of TWinswood Sdn Bhd to consider allowing the unhindered usage of the three storey shophouse to SUPP Sibu until the title leasehold.

Chin said there was never any problem of SUPP Sibu branch using the building, so he questioned why should it be now?

He said despite meeting the PM many times, they never discussed on matters related to SUPP, but the PM is aware of what is going on.

Stating that he and the party is dead set against Teras joining the BN, Chin pointed out that not only he is against it, but so are those in the Sarawak Progressive Democratic party and Parti Rakyat Sarawak.

“Even the MCA and the parties in Sabah including UMNO themselves, will know the implication of accepting Teras into the Barisan component. If I were those in Teras, I will not be so confident to think they would be accepted by BN. Teras needs to apply to join BN and there will be a BN council meeting on that. If I were there I will make my stand to object. But if I were not there after the TDC, the next president will object,” he added.

Chin also affirmed that there is no reason for Teras to be a BN-plus party. He said the situation is very different from PBDS in 1983.
