Kho: moderation and respect can be taught
Unity is not something that is achievable by putting kids under the same roof, especially in this digital age.
In Sarawak, Kho wants our children to learn and be proud of their own race, religion and culture, while acknowledging and respecting others’ differences.
A society that value and respect diversity will be able to achieve unity. Supporting religious organisations, mission schools and Chinese independent schools are some of the ways the Sarawak Government showed respect to its people.
Our existing education system is not the stumbling block of unity. Extremism, unfair practices and laws are the real threat to unity. The Government and the society as a whole should put our best effort to stop that.
Moderation and respect can be taught and expressed in any language. Though we do not have Wawasan school in Sarawak., we have lots of missions schools, sekolah agama and Chinese schools and Sarawakian have lived harmoniously in this melting pot where her people speak multiple languages, practice different religion and have very different culture.
Kho believes that unity it is done through understanding, tolerating and respecting each others’ differences.
