Sarawak government to continue allowances to state village chiefs
Allowance of the Ketua Kaum from the Sarawak government will continue, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office in a statement said this decision is made following a circular issued by the federal Rural Development Ministry that payment of allowance and other related matters such as appointments are now temporarily deferred.
The circular from the federal Rural Development Ministry stated that it is now temporary deferring any administrative matters regarding village security and development committees (JKKK) or its federal equivalent JKKKP until new policy and direction is received from the new minister.
“The state government will facilitate the payment of this allowance to all ketua kaum (village chiefs) in conjunction with the coming Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations,” said the statement from the Chief Minister’s Office yesterday.
The JKKKP was one of the government-linked agencies and institutions to be disbanded following an announcement by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Wednesday after he chaired the new federal cabinet’s first meeting in Putrajaya.
