Sarawak PH excuses not to fulfill their election pledges
SUPP In response to State Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s earlier statement that the New Deal for Sarawak was off and so was the devolution of powers, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) issued a press statement slamming Sarawak PH for finding lame excuses not to fulfill their election pledges to Sarawak people.
During the campaign of the 14th General Election, Sarawak PH clearly stated in their election manifesto, Buku Harapan under Promises 41 and
47 that in the event the PH becomes the government of the day, the PH government would ensure the prosperity of the people of Sarawak by increasing the petroleum royalty to Sarawak to 20 percent, and also to implement decentralization of power to Sarawak which includes 50 percent of the tax revenue collected in Sarawak to be returned to Sarawak. Furthermore, the State PH chairman, Chong Chieng Jen also in various occasions openly repeated the above pledges in the press as well as in his campaign videos which was seen widely distributed through social networks and mobile phones.
SUPP finds it totally absurd for Sarawak PH to say that the “New Deal” was off on the ground that the Sarawak Government did not sign the New Deal Agreement prepared by Sarawak PH. “First of all, one would not be able to find any mention of such “New Deal Agreement” throughout their Buku Harapan that such an agreement must be signed by the Sarawak Government in order for PH to honour their ends of their pledges.” “Many Sarawakians had also watched Chong’s campaign videos, did he ever mention about the New Deal Agreement is a condition for PH to fulfill their pledges? Nothing!”
SUPP also reminds PH that all the promises they pledged in their Manifesto are promises they pledged with the people of Sarawak, not with the Sarawak Government. When PH pledged those promises with the people, and the people chose to vote them in as the government of the day, that is a reason good enough for the PH to stop finding excuses but to start working to fulfill all their pledges for the people!
SUPP suspects the PH must have now found it difficult to fulfill their promises pledged to Sarawak people. MP Chong therefore turned around to put the blame on Sarawak Government for not signing the New Deal Agreement in order to dodge the responsibility!
