DAP dirty tactics

The DAP’s tricks of wooing supporters by constant arguing and shouting in the just concluded State Legislative sitting did not go down well this time, said Youth Central Chief, Tan Kai.

Tan said despite a whopping increment of about 300 percent in their salary, the DAP, in looking for new ways to woo supporters, had its DAP Chairman, Chong Chieng Jen, did fantastically well by contradicting and portraying himself as a victim to gain the sympathy of the masses.

“When Chong strongly opposed the passing of the Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill 2014, where the maximum amount of fine imposed was raised from RM2,000 to RM500,000, one could not help but to question, what Chong was really up to. Chong has furiously criticized the authorities for not taking effective measures to tackle the problems of illegal gambling but he was against the passing of such bill and the inconsistency of his speech contradicting himself,” said Tan.

He pointed out that it was a known fact that by increasing the maximum fine from a mere RM2, 000 to a RM500, 000, the whole idea was to deter illegal gambling outlets from operating again if they were caught. It’s the same logic applied to increase the fine of dangerous driving on the road.

Chong, recalled Tan, had tried to relate the passing of the bill to coffee shop owners being imposed a hefty RM500,000 fine for operating without licences. “Such misleading and baseless speculation has created tension between those coffee shop owners and the local government. Was this action politically motivated or it was merely Chong’s unintentional mistake, we have no answer to that. As a practising lawyer who has vast experience in the legal faculty, Chong should stop making baseless allegations.”

On a separate issue, Tan Kai urged those who had applied for licence to operate coffee shops to be patient as these applications will be processed and approved within a month. He said some owners claimed that they had waited for half a year and has yet to get their licences.

He assured that he would render his assistance to the public in applying for coffee shop operating licenses but applicants need to have proper documentation.

Tan Kai said he was shocked by Chong’s statement of saying that the Minister of Housing Development Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari was pro UMNO. He even made a baseless speculation by relating the senior state minister to UMNO’s coming to Sarawak, which up until today has never been confirmed and still remains a rumor.

“Many of us should know that Abang Zohari is a Malay politician who is widely accepted, respected and supported by the Chinese community. Now that the state election is drawing nearer, DAP leaders suddenly turned their attention to the Satok assemblyman – such unusual move is almost a hint of where they are going next,” said Tan.

He added that Abang Jo has a cordial relationship with the Federal leaders and it need not meant that he was trying to bring in UMNO to Sarawak.

Tan also hit out at the DAP assemblywomen for joining in the fight by accusing Abang Jo of sexual harassment. “I think they are cooking something,” said Tan.
