SUPP should be “Whole”
President of SUPP, Tan Sri Peter Chin is looking forward to 2014 which he believed would be a fresh start of good things going for the party.
He strongly believes that after next year Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC), the party would be heading towards a more unified front to tackle any challenges together.
After taking over the leadership in 2011, Chin has led the party as best as he could and kept his head above all controversial issues.
As a man of few words, Chin refused to be dragged into any internal conflicts and would only say the necessary.
A strong believer in decisions made by grass root leaders, Chin said it does not matter to him who would lead the party next year. For him, he said, the ultimate aim is to ensure that the party is ‘whole’, as only then would it be able to perform with better result in the next election.
Calling to party members not to get personal, Chin said he wanted the grass root leaders to make their decision on who would lead them although he did not want to comment if he will defend his post. “The grassroots leaders should not get personal but be matured to make their own decision for the good of the party and for their love of the party. Pick a leader you want, it is not necessary Peter Chin or Wong Soon Koh. It can be anyone. Once that decision is made, then you move forward to work with the leader to head for bigger task – that is to wrestle back the lost seats”.
“I strongly believe this can be done. We plan to inject in younger leaders who are full of ideas and concept of how they want to do things. This would also be a time to heal the wounds of the fractions in the party. It can be done. After all, we are in a party sharing the same ideology and facing the same enemy. So to face the same enemy, the only way is to stay united,” he added.
Since taking over, Chin and the Central Committee has made effort to move around to the branches to meet grassroots leaders and to explain to them how the party is doing and motivate them to hang on in there.
Chin would also like to remind party members to work in close rapport with other Barisan Nasional component parties, hoping to see grass root leaders to organise activities together, especially in doing community work. He believes that with such united front, it would bring confidence and trust from the people. “We should stand as a united front as the Opposition loves to see us divided,” he reasoned.
He urged the branches to continue with their services to the people no matter what challenges they faced. “Continue with your work and stay together. From the bottom of my heart, I want to see us whole and we can ‘fight’ with strength in the next election.”
