In his speech, Yap said that the main goal of any education system in the world is to produce future generations that are holistic, life-long learners and are equipped with the skills (such as critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, and entrepreneurial skills) and competencies of innovation.
As such, Yap congratulated SMK Sungai Tapang for becoming the first public school in the country to be recognised as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School which is recognised around the world for its progressive approach to learning, which emphasizes academic rigour and skills beyond the classroom.
Yap said that the event was a clear example of how capable the students are of accomplishing their goals when they commit themselves to them and he hoped that all the award winners will take their personal accomplishment as an example of how anything is truly possible when we put our minds to it.
Lastly, Yap advised the students to take each new problem on with confidence as their schooling at SMK Sungai Tapang using the IB approach of critical and independent learning had equipped them with the necessary tools to confidently tackle their future undertakings.
