SUPP education seminar

SUPP Central Youth Chairman, Tan Kai advised school leavers to look at a wider scope of jobs rather than limiting their choices.

Speaking at the Education seminar organised by the SUPP Youth held at the SUPP headquarters Friday night, Tan Kai said a lot of parents wanted their children to go into medical fields.

Stating that it was not a good choice in today’s job environment, he said there is an oversupply of medical doctors plus the fact that there were only five universities in Malaysia offering medical studies.

He said in the past when SUPP assisted students to apply for courses, many were angry when their medical courses applied were rejected. “It was unfortunate that they blamed the government for it. I hope that students would look at what type of job is demand is before making a decision. It would not be good for them to spend years of studies and not able to get a job,” he pointed out.

Tan Kai also asked the students to look into course like Accounting or Engineering. He said recently the SUPP leaders have met with Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of police.

He said the police’s pay is considered high today and to attract Chinese cops, the government had lowered the BM passes only instead of a credit to gain entry into the police force.

About 300 students attended the seminar which was an annual do for the SUPP as part of their community services.

Assistant Marketing Corporate Sales Jobstreet.com, Grace Teo also gave talk to the students.

PTPTN officers were also at the seminar to assist the parents on how to apply the loans.
