Dr Sim: Distorted facts will result in loss of credibility in the media
Minister of Local Government, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian hit out at the distorted facts in the newspaper and said they will lost readership due to their lack of credibility.
Dr Sim said certain newspapers had said the term for Mayor, Chairman and councillors will be extended another six months of which he has no knowledge of and that the papers should not let their bosses manipulate information without verification of facts.
Speaking to reporters after the celebration of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) 57th anniversary dinner at the Civic Centre yesterday, Dr. Sim said as a Minister of Local government, he did not know that there is an extension of 6 months.
“All names for councillors (including Mayor, Chairman) are submitted through my Minister of which I am the Minister. Unless the Minister is sleeping or someone else knows more than the Minister, “ he retorted.
Dr Sim added that his Ministry is co-ordinating with the Barisan Nasional four component parties (SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) ) for the whole name list. “I can’t control what is going on in the other parties. I did not say anything else, do not misquote me,” he said.
He hoped that the names will be ready and by July, it will all be sorted out. Stating that for councillors who had worked hard, Dr. Sim said there is no need for them to worry.
For the council secretaries, he said he will transfer them supposedly by August 1 but due to their involvement in SUKMA, he will wait until its completion. “I get them transferred as I cannot sack them, “he pointed out.
Dr. Sim said the Chief Minister has expected them to work hard by checking on the KPI and likewise, he will do so to all the councils as by six months, he wanted them to show him their KPI.
Asked whether he has received any letters to lobby or extension of position in the councils, Dr. Sim did not want to disclose anything and said, there is no need for anyone to worry about anything as everything will be in place by next month.
