SPCB helping out business owners and traders near the Kota Sentosa market

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief and SUPP Candidate for N12 Kota Sentosa, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by business owners and traders operating opposite the Kota Sentosa market who requested for his assistance to clear blocked drains.

The matter have since been highlighted and brought to the attention of the Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP).

Following the request for assistance, Wilfred Yap went to inspect and assess the situation with officers of the public health section of Majlis Perbandaran Padawan and also to see what can be done to resolve the problems raised by the business owners and traders.

From the investigation carried out, the problem of the blocked drains have been a long standing issue due to the shop owners carrying out renovation works resulting in the uneven level of the drain which thereby disrupted the water flow. Another problem is the indiscriminate dumping of organic material by some traders into the drain thereby slowing and disrupting the water flow which in turn caused the blockage over a short period of time.

A check with MPP records shows that the drains have been cleared only recently. However, MPP have requested their contractor to de sludge and unblock the drain again.

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap advised the traders and business owners there to cooperate and be considerate in future and not to throw any organic material into the drain to prevent the blockage of the drain from occurring again.
