Update on Kampung Merikan Squatters
Secretary General of SUPP, Dato’ Sebastian Ting visited the Kampung Merikan Squatters with Publicity Chief Adam Yii to see the relocation process of the 71 families to their new place at Tudan Desaras.
“And more importantly we went there to convey the wonderful news to the remaining 9 families who were not allocated a residential lot initially, that the Government has considered their appeals and has agreed to allocate to them a lot each. Needless to say they were very happy and we too were delighted for them and indeed SUPP share their happiness too,” said Ting.
According to him, the 71 families had been staying and squatting in this Kampong for the past 30 years..
On December 18th last year, 62 families received letters of offer from the Government, allocating a residential lot to each of the 62 families. Nine families were unsuccessful. They submitted their appeals through SUPP Miri
On 5th February 5th this year, Ting said they received the green light from the authorities to inform all the relevant parties that these nine families would be given a lot each.
Following a discussion, the remaining 4 families would be required to dismantle their houses by 23rd February 2015.
SUPP Miri will visit the relevant authorities and hope to obtain the letters of offer for these nine families before 23rd February 2015.
All the 71 families would like us to convey their greatest appreciation and gratitude to our YAB Chief Minister of Sarawak for his personal touch on this matter. Also their thanks to the Supt and other officers in Land & Survey Miri.
