Supp Youth Central Press Statement on 8/12/2014
Supp Youth Central condemns the act of Selangor government and its Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) for stamping and desecrating the returned Bahasa Malaysia and Iban-language Bibles which were seized earlier this year with a “warning” which read that the Bibles, which were recently returned to be distributed in Sarawak churches, were not to be used or distributed anywhere in Selangor.
This is a clear fact that Selangor PR government confiscated the bibles. This is what “Ubah” means in disguise, to curtail freedom of religion and a serious infringement of the Christian’s rights.
SUPP voiced out vigorously and asked for the return while DAP Sarawak was silent on the issue. Initially, it was the Selangor PR government’s claim that the matter is not under their preview but later on, it made a U-turn and ordered JAIS to return the bible following criticisms from BN, including SUPP.
Now, the returned bible was found with a warning stamp which is once again desecrating in nature. Again DAP Sarawak remains silent.
BSM president Bishop Datuk Ng Moon Hing said the Christian community has suffered the indignity of having its religious texts defiled and that the Bibles have been desecrated, and thus demanding an apology from the said authority. BSM has also moved office from Selangor to KL as a result of the above incident.
SUPP Youth Central therefore appeals to the public to see the true face hiding behind the mask of “Ubah”. The impairment of Christianity’s rights and interests under PR ruling is just one of the many examples showing how “well” the people’s rights are protected by DAP UBAH.
