Dressing up the city cat statue iconic monument
YB Dato Sri Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Local Government and Housing Sarawak, together with Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South and Tuan Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Deputy Mayor dressed-up the white cat statue in Chinese traditional costume in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration month.
The Kuching City Cat Statue iconic monument wears different costumes on different occasions every year such as Chinese New Year, Hari Gawai Dayak, Hari Deepavali, and Hari Christmas. It is one of the significant and meaningful event as it symbolizes the Kuching City’s multicultural population.
YB Dato Sri Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to celebrate the festival responsibly. Let’s celebrate this Chinese New Year under the new norm by strictly adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) laid by SDMC. Always wear face mask, avoid crowded area, constantly wash hands with soap or sanitizer, avoid big gathering, and always practise social distancing. Please love your family and keep them safe from COVID-19.
As there is a surge of COVID19 in Sarawak, SDMC had announced that no public gathering or celebration is allowed. For this Chinese New Year, only immediate relatives visit (less than 20 persons at one time) on the first day of Chinese New Year is allowed. Play your part as a responsible person and fight covid together. Together we care!
