Press Statement by Clarence Ting, Chairman of SUPP Pelawan

The following statement was made in response to Sibu MP Oscar Ling’s earlier statement questioning SRDC’s plans to build an administration office at Sibujaya:

I am surprised a 4th year MP who claims to have the peoples’ interest at heart is posing such basic questions about SRDC on the newspaper. In fact the information that he seeks is public information.

Firstly, the cost of 2 floors of SRDC office is in Srdc accounts which he has assess to, and neglects to mention how much it cost to maintain the office monthly.

Secondly, he should have known by now that Sibujaya is by far the largest center in SRDC, with a population of 30,000 out of the total 60,000.

Thirdly, there are no council services except for the library, stationed in Sibujaya and all the staff have to commute 26 km daily to resolve simple matters.  How much does it cost to build an office in sibujaya, can you put a price to provide good services to the residents of Sibujaya?

During my tenure in SRDC as it’s deputy chairman, I was one of them who pushed for the office 5 years ago, as I felt the need for strong council presence to make this vibrant township even better.  For an MP who claims to have people interest at heart, he should be seeking the same solution for benefits of people in Sibujaya.
