Caring for animal welfare
Minister for Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said there should be a SOP on ways to handle animal welfare. He brought this up when officiating at the opening of the ‘Animal Population Management Training Workshop’ recently .
He said there should be an SOP in dealing with abused animals, and this can be challenging .
Educating the public, especially the youth, on how to care for animals such as pets was also important and such education should be instilled among students, he added.
The three-day workshop is organised by the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) as a follow-up to the ‘Asia for Animal Conference’ (AfA) which was organised in October last year.
Also present were SSPCA chairman Rebecca D’Cruz and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
Dr Sim said society must be ready at all times to curb the possible spread of disease through animals.
He also lauded the SSPCA’s effort in organizing the workshop as a sustainable way to ensure continuity in society’s efforts to protect animal welfare.
